intro

The Polish-Norwegian Research Programme

is one of the largest bilateral research programme in rheumatology in this region. We are proud of this partnership.

about project

PolNorRHEUMA

PolNorRHEUMA aims to improve patient care, health outcomes and rheumatology research in Poland by establishing a partnership between medical research institutions (Jagiellonian University Medical College, Kraków, Poland, and Sorlandet Hospital, Kristiansand, Norway) and enterprises (KAMBU, Kraków, Poland and DiaGraphIT®, Kristiansand, Norway).

The partners will design, deliver and implement a structured medical record system for both daily clinical care and collection of high-quality registry data in a single workflow.

Such an advanced platform allows doctors to continuously monitor important disease parameters in juvenile and adult rheumatic patients, revealing the true picture of epidemiology, disease status, treatment, and health services. The result is improvement of patient health of all ages throughout the entire life course.

1. a large outpatient clinic focusing on all inflammatory rheumatic disorders, inflammatory joint disorders, Connective tissue disorders and vasculitis
2. an infusion unit
3. a nurse organized gout clinic
4. a nurse organized Osteoporosis DXA centre
5. a small inpatient unit located together with the division of infection at the Dept. of Medicine
6. a dermatologist is employed for rheuma-derma collaboration

The division aims to integrate research into ordinary clinic and is using the computer tool GoTreatIT Rheuma to monitor their outpatient clinic patients. This allows to do clinical work and data register collection in one workflow.

Parties Involved In The Project

Innovation is born from creativity and what better enabler for creativity than the collaboration between people of different backgrounds?

The initiators of the PolNorRHEUMA project are prof. Mariusz Korkosz (Jagiellonian University Medical College in Krakow) and prof. Glenn Haugeberg (Kristiansand Sorlanded Hospital and Trondheim University of Technology *). The leading center of the project is the Jagiellonian University Medical College, responsible for coordinating and reporting the grant, and the project principal investigator is prof. Mariusz Korkosz. The project is entirely financed by the National Center for Research and Development via norwegian financial mechanism (NCBiR; POLNOR 2019 edition) and its implementation is supported by two IT companies - Norwegian DiaGraphIt and Polish KAMBU.

JUMC’s Department of Rheumatology and Immunology, located at the University Hospital in Kraków, provides out-patient and in-patient care to approx. 4 mil. inhabitants. Approximately 500 patients with rheumatic diseases are hospitalised and 7200 check-up appointments are made for out-patients on an annual basis. The research activity is focused on basic and clinical research in spondyloarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. The Department has been assigned as a leader in the Polish Spondyloarthritis Initiative (PolSPI)’s scientific consortium and also established a scientific platform for research in endothelium pathophysiology in inflammatory chronic rheumatic diseases. en.uj.edu.pl/en

JUMC Hospital

Sorlandet Sykehus Hospital Norway

The Medical Department at Sørlandet Sykehus HF (SSHF) investigates and treats patients in internal medicine specialties. The POLNOR RHEUMA project is strongly anchored in and supported by the management at the Medical Department and the research unit at the hospital. The project is consistent with the hospital’s strategy. The hospital covers approx. 300,000 inhabitants. Approximately 1200 RA patients, 450 PsA and 500 ax-SpA patients are currently visiting the out-patient clinic on an annual basis and being monitored and treated using the ‘treat to target’ method. Over the years a total of 2,255 RA patients, 920 axial SpA patients and 853 PsA patients have been monitored; 146 JIA patients have been registered in the database. SSHF is an approved research institution as per the guidelines of the Norwegian Research Council. sshf.no
